Electoral Literacy Club

Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) are platforms to engage school and college students, as well as people in villages, through interesting activities and hands-on experiences to sensitize them to their electoral rights. Established at the behest of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in all educational institutions, the goal is to raise awareness and ensure the participation of youth and future voters, who are the pillars of Indian democracy.

ELCs are being set up in colleges across India to promote electoral literacy among all age groups through engaging and interactive activities, conducted in an apolitical, neutral, and non-partisan manner. These clubs specifically target new voters who are pursuing their graduation.

Objectives:

  • The Electoral Literacy Club aims to strengthen the culture of electoral participation among young and future voters.
  • To educate targeted populations about voter registration, the electoral process, and related matters through hands-on experiences.
  • To facilitate familiarization with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), including education on the robustness of EVMs and the integrity of the electoral process.
  • To help the target audience understand the value of their vote and exercise their right to franchise confidently, comfortably, and ethically.
  • To harness the potential of ELC members in promoting electoral literacy within their communities.
  • To develop a culture of electoral participation that maximizes informed and ethical voting, following the principles of "Every vote counts" and "No voter to be left behind."
